7 Airports for the Brave

If you truly want to have a unique experience, why don’t you start at the airport? Here are some of the most interesting airports in the world!

Princess Julian Airport

This airport is crazy. Many islands have limited space, and this is no different. When planes land at the airport, they literally skim right over the heads of people who are at the beach, enjoying the ocean. If you want to go here, you will have to visit St. Marteen, which is part of the Virgin Islands.

Kansai International Aiport

This Japanese airport is enough to scare even the bravest of fliers in the world. It is literally a floating airport off the coast. All you see is a runway and a place for other planes and that is all. You had better hope you have a good pilot and you had better hoped they checked the brakes good before touching down in Kansai.

Gisborne Airport

Rarely does an airplane runway intersect with traffic, but this one does. And it is not cars that cross the runway. No, it is train tracks, smack in the middle of the runway of this New Zealand airport. Often times, planes have to delay landing or taking off until the train has gone through.

Barra Aiport

This Scottish airport is the only one in the world that uses a beach for landing and taking off. And if it is not low tide there, you are landing on the water or taking off from there as well!

Hong Kong International Airport

Now this is my kinda of airport! They literally have a nine hole golf course all around the runway, so if your flight is delayed or you are early, you can catch a quick nine holes. But this is one place where you will have to deal with the noise, as the roaring of the jet engines will make it hard to concentrate on that five foot birdie putt.

Courcheval International Airport

This French airport is a tad scary, as it sits atop the French Alps. This is mainly used for the high end resort that is nearby. But the runway is not for the faint of heart, as it is not only tiny, but it has a steep grade of 18.5 degrees.

Juneau International Airport

The only way to really hit this town in Alaska is by air, and with Alaska mostly made of mountains, it is very hard to find a place to land. Some planes land on the water, while some use top notch technology just to stop quickly and land in the right spot.
