5 Changes for the Perfect Pizza

Who doesn’t love a great pizza? And pizza is such a fun thing to eat all over the country, as each region really has their own style when it comes to making pizza. You have the Chicago deep dish to the Californian thin crust and everything else in between. Pizza is just a way for so many restaurants and people across this great nation.

But what if you want to try and take part in the pizza culture, besides just devouring it? Making your own pizza is a ton of fun, especially if you have some children around to give you a hand. It really makes their day, no matter what it tastes like.

However, if you are a pizza snob like my wife is, you better know how to make a good pizza pie or else. Here are my 5 ways to create the perfect pizza.

  1. Use durum flour

This type of flour should be used after you have made the dough but you need to start stretching it out and getting it ready for the toppings. This type of flour isn’t’ as gritty as normal flour and it has less gluten in it as well. Plus, it adds an awesome toasted flavor to your dough once you are finished.

  1. Use fresh oregano

Get the oregano straight from the stem and use that when making your pie. Do not use the dried kind, as that is lazy and not as flavorful. While it will take you a few extra minutes to get the oregano off the stem and cut up for your pie, it is worth it. It will give you a lot more flavor then dried could ever give you.

  1. Use local farm fresh puree

There is nothing better for your tomato puree then using local produce. Getting something straight from your local farm is the best way to not only make sure it tastes fresh and amazing, but you are supporting your local farmer. Your local farmer needs love, and that is the best way to give it to them.

  1. Use creme fraiche

Couple this with a little bit of minced garlic for an out of this world flavor. This French cheese is used to give the pie a little tang and make it give a little pop. Add a very thin layer of this to your next pizza.

  1. Use high heat

High heat is a must when cooking your own dough. This isn’t some frozen pizza. Fire up the oven to 450 to 500 degrees and make sure that dough gets cooked. You need the high heat to make sure the dough cooks and the toppings don’t overcook. Using a pizza stone is a great way to make sure your pizza comes out perfect.
